Intention:
I decided to refine my SI to utlize scientific components - biology, psychology, and technology, to illustrate the message of unrestricted internet access. In this piece, I wanted to explore the anatomy of the eye and I intend on doing a medical illustration. The meaning of the eye in the piece is the “eye” of the internet - its influence on us, how it shapes us, etc. Instead of the veins, I replaced them with internet wires and made them reach out towards the person. This is to demonstrate how the internet makes its way into the everyday parts of our lives.
The person is then shooting towards the eye, burning through the cornea, retina, etc. in order to free themselves from the internet’s influence. I wanted to do a shot of electricity to blind the eye. I decided to also do labels like they do on medical illustration, except I wanted to write messages with the labels.
Three questions:
1) I want to draw this in a medical illustration style, but how can I make the scene feel more active and intense?
2) How effective are the internet wires in establishing everyday creeping presence of the internet in our lives?
3) For my next idea, I think I want to do something more ambitious. I've had this idea since the start of the school year but I want to do those plexiglass pieces where they layer on paint by paint, but stick it inside of a deconstructed computer. I think for the painting itself I want to do something with the body that's layered (layers of the skin, heart chamber, etc.) The intention behind this one would be being deconstructed by others on the internet.
I think to make it more intense you could have expression on the person's face.
I think the wires are very effective and you could definitely play on the blood vessels in our eyes already just with some like sparks and what not.
It's hard to visualize exactly what you are saying for the last one. But I think it's a very ambitious idea. I think it'd be cool if you played with a like murder scene sketch with like the tracing of the body and what not.
I like your idea a lot. I think stretching the pose out a little more and maybe having a somewhat intense facial expression will really show the intensity of the situation. I think some red lighting will also make it more intense.
I think another perspective you can look at is if the eye is in the back, with the person In front of it holding the gun up. To have the eye huge would be really cool to look at, and also would show how large the "eye" of the internet is and how large of an impact it has of its users. I also think it would add the the intensity if the eye was huge while looking down at the small opponent.
I really like the idea of the wires, and I think it ties in nicely with you other SI's as well that incorporate wires as veins. I think you should stay with the idea of them trying…
I like the idea your going with this piece. I would recommend making the pose a bit more stretched out to make it seem like their putting everything into their so called "attack". If your not already doing that of course. Since your wanting you piece to feel more intense and active. I would recommend adding some dramatic lighting to it. Since your wanting to keep the style similar to one of the ones you see in medical illustrations, I believe it would be a good idea to then play around with lighting and shadows.
