BLOG POST: Amy Sherald: American Sublime

I think what Amy. means by the title American Sublime is capturing the full entirety of America's beauty - especially people of color who are often overlooked. This is because much of society, even America's, revolves around white people. White people are often reocgnized for their beauty and achievements, overshadowing the people of color who may be as talented. Amy's pieces are mainly people of color, such as the black girl I drew in my sketch. This makes me believe that she wants to capture and recognize the beauty of minorities - the ones who are often overlooked when it comes to imagining American beauty. She wants to capture even the quiet, normal daily lives of the people of color to show that they too can lead beautiful lives.
